This
Technician class is comprised of about 20 hours of class instruction,
which includes:
Video &
Power Point Presentations, Hands-On Displays, Demos, Class
Discussions, Practice Tests, and More!
INDEPENDENT SELF STUDY
(outside of the classroom) from this study guide is expected,
and is essential to successful completion of the class
and F.C.C. testing. Although attendence at a class is NOT required to
pass the F.C.C. exam,
many find the topics discussed helpful, and informitive.

The class is based on the study
guide / operator's manual pictured on the left. It is
called simply "HAM RADIO LICENSE MANUAL". (ISBN:
0-87259-963-9) Published by the ARRL, it's price is
$24.95. One is included in the price of the
class. If you already have this manual, or wish to
obtain one on your own, PLEASE note that when you register.
Although the former manual "NOW YOU'RE TALKING" still contains
useful and correct TECNICIAL information, the FCC RULES, BAND
ALLOCATIONS, Frequencies, and other changes renders it unsuitible
for this class. |

Cost of the Class
is $30.00 which includes the Study Guide (above)
. The balance of the class fee covers the costs involved with copying,
printing of the handouts
and other expenses involved with providing the class. (Equipment
maintenance, etc)
Families, roommates (or whatever) can
share
a single manual,
provided they will have ample time for individual study.
In
this case the extra person will pay only $5.00 for the class.
The class is
comprised of: Three Saturday Sessions, as follows: November
7th, 14th and June
21st. All Sessions run from 9:00am until
5:00pm (The final
Saturday session may end a earlier than 5pm) (Attendence at ALL THREE sessions is
highly recommended)

in the Spring of 2010 Check

In all class sessions we stop for a 10
minute break approximately every hour.
Lunch Breaks will run as close as possible from NOON to 1:00pm
(Give or Take 10 Min)
INDEPENDENT (home) STUDY OF THE LICENSE MANUAL IS REQUIRED !
The Saturday sessions will
include a one hour lunch break. You are welcome to "brown bag"
it and stay in the class room, or leave and return. There is a
small snack shop in the mall for burgers, etc., as well a many fast food
establishments within just a few blocks.
LOCATION OF THE CLASS
WILL BE IN THE WESTGATE MALL Room 35-F Go completely
around behind the mall on the end closest to the refinery. Then come
in the doors (behind the mall) and take the narrow hallway on your
Left. Room 35-F will be the first door on your
left. Watch for small "AMATEUR RADIO CLASS" signs

STORM SPOTTER TRAINING

This course is offered and conducted
by the National Weather Service Office here in Great Falls,
in association with the Great Falls Area Amateur Radio Club,
and SKYWARN. It will consist of approximately two hours
of instruction on how to identify specific types of weather
events, how to assess their danger potential, and how to
report your information to the NWS. All materials are
provided by the National Weather Service.

Coordinators, All ARES
members will be REQUIRED
to have completed the FEMA / NIMS courses listed
below. There is NO CHARGE for these courses, they are FREE
!
Since certification requirements may change from time to
time, it is suggested you visit this page every few months to make
sure you are up to date with "current" training requirements.
Training DOES NOT have to be
completed prior to joining ARES
These
classes can be completed at home (on-line self study). Each one only
takes a few hours to complete, and you can print out your certificate
of completion for each class as you finish
it.
